Stuck with Fahrenheit
Product description says “Switch from F° to C°”. What it doesn’t mention is that the switch is inside the unit and you would need what must be the world’s smallest cross-headed screwdriver to access it. I don’t have one of these and can’t find one in the shops. If you like using Fahrenheit, this won’t matter to you, but if you prefer Celsius then tough.

Inaccurate
I had high hopes for this thermometer, but when I compared it to two other thermometers it was off by more then 8 degrees. Don’t waste your money on this thermometer.

Opacity of glass to inferred wavelengths
This will read the temperature but only of the bottle itself as glass blocks most inferred wavelengths of light. The temp you will get will be the bottle and their are cheaper versions of thermometers that do that

Good as thermometer, poor design
The idea is right–and I’ve had some (perhaps even from this company) that are better executed. But here, the plastic casing feels cheap and worse still you can’t change the battery without a tiny screwdriver. Pretty inconvenient if you don’t have one. Even worse if you travel with it.

Works well until the batteries have to be replaced
I’ve had this thermometer for a few years now and I’ve found it to work well. I’m not sure why others have found it to be inaccurate as I measured this against other thermometers and found it to be quite accurate. My only complaint (which others have stated) is that when the batteries die, it’s all but impossible to remove the screw to get the end cap off. I tried with multiple screwdrivers and only a couple fit, but none worked to get the screw out. I had to buy a new one as I gave up on replacing the batteries. I hope the company fixes this and just makes this a screw-on cap to make this easier.

Houston, we have a problem…
Let me get the most important question out of the way – yes, it’s accurate and works fine, however… The devil is in the details. I wish I could give it higher rating, but here’s why not – the thermometer comes with batteries already installed. So far, so good. What’s NOT good is that a little cap for the compartment housing the batteries is secured by a tiny screw which is jammed and almost broke my screwdriver. What this means is that some day when batteries die, the whole gadget goes to trash. I was tempted to return it/exchange it, but decided to keep it. Thanks to a superb vendor support, I’ll be getting another thermometer with better design (no screw) at a wholesale price. Perhaps mine was a fluke and screw works just fine on other devices, but in my opinion, adding the screw to secure the battery housing was completely unnecessary and a big hassle as my example proves.If you want to be picky, the only other flaw is that the display is quite small and not backlit. You’ll need decent ambient light in order to be able to read the temperature. So, forget about taking the temperature of your wine in a romantic setting by the fireplace. Lights on!Other than that, great little gadget. Not just for wine, but mostly anything. Pool temperature, hot water in the bathroom, A/C vents, ice cream, you name it (who takes the temperature of ice cream anyway? Answer: Boys who like toys LOL). Works great.

Accurate but it has a major problem
We use this to measure the temperature of bottles of wine when dining out. We have found the often the wine served in restaurants, both white and red, is “too warm.” This device is accurate within a degree or two. It is easy to use in the proper lighting. And, it is inexpensive. However, the temperature reading is not backlit, and if you are in a restaurant where the lighting is dimmed, as it often is, you will need a flashlight to read the temperature.

Pretty good at reading temps
This is not the easiest external wine thermometer to use but it works. I bought it to replace an old Menu thermometer that had a band that fit around the bottle and that allowed you to place it on the bottle while it was being chilled and read it at any point. This tiny device works moderately well but is not as easy as the old one. I think the temperatures are reasonably accurate although sometimes I have to try it a couple times before I get an accurate read.On the positive side, it is very small and has a pocket clip on it so if you wanted to take it with you to a restaurant, it is inconspicuous and relatively easy.

Good thermometer for wine
I bought this to measure wine temps and so far it works very well. I checked the calibration with my cheese thermometer and it is spot on. The only reason I haven’t given it 5 stars is I haven’t had it long enough to check battery use and durability, but I may end up giving it 5 stars a month from now. One improvement would be if the read-out would be back lit so it’d be easier to see at night (especially for those of us over 50).

good, but keeps switching to different temperature units…
I love this, but it keeps switching itself to Celsius on its own which renders it useless when I need it the most and I don’t have a celsius conversion reference nearby. I have to use a long thumbnail to switch it back to Fahrenheit.

This works great, especially for the price! I am always surprised by how quick this little device is too. I also appreciated the sheet it came with that tells you the correct temperature to serve various types of wine at. I wish it was laminated or easier to hang onto though. I am very sastisfied with this product.
